Did you or a family member contract a serious illness after receiving a vaccine? Cases of paralysis, debilitating neurological conditions, and other serious complications have been reported nationally by individuals who were recently vaccinated for common illnesses, like the flu.
If you or a loved one suffered paralysis or another serious injury and you suspect a vaccine is to blame, Cory Watson wants to hear from you. We are investigating claims for compensation linked to immunizations like the flu vaccine, which may cause paralysis, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, and more.

Vaccine Injury Settlements
- June 2014: Lehigh County Woman Awarded $11.6 Million Flu Vaccine Paralysis Settlement
A 24-year-old Lehigh County, not represented by Cory Watson, woman received a settlement of $11.6 million alleging her paralysis resulted from a flu vaccine she received four years prior. Within three weeks of getting the shot she began to experience symptoms and was subsequently diagnosed with GBS.
- 2013: Child From Tampa Contracts ADEM After Flu Shot
A 10-year-old Florida girl received a flu shot and contracted Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) the following day. Her condition has progressed and doctors admit the immunization could have caused her paralysis.
- 2011: Cleveland Woman Experiences Sudden Paralysis Three Months After Flu Shot
In 2011, a Cleveland woman was diagnosed with transverse myelitis (TM) with cauda equina syndrome, or the sudden onset of paralysis, three months after getting a flu shot at work.
- 2005: Five Ohio Teens Contract GBS After Menactra Vaccine
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control investigated the case of five Ohio teenagers who contracted Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) after being vaccinated with Menactra, a meningitis vaccine given to college-age individuals. The government did not change the drug’s recommendations despite uncovering a total of 15 cases of people ages 11 to 19 contracting GBS within two weeks of their Menactra vaccination.
While complications from common vaccines may be rare, they do happen. In 1989, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services established the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) in response to claims filed by patients harmed by immunizations for various illnesses. Since its inception, tens of thousands of people have filed such claims.
Devastating Side Effects of the Flu Vaccine
No vaccine is considered completely safe, but the influenza (flu) shot regularly stands out as a cause of serious complications for some patients.
Vaccinations have long been touted as the most effective way to quell the spread of disease, but can they cause a host of other health problems? According to Dr. Aaron Boster, an immunologist at Ohio State University, “Yes, it is possible.”
Immunizations Linked to Paralysis
Defined as the loss of muscle function to an area of the body, paralysis can be partial or complete and can affect one side of the body while the other retains normal functions. Numerous conditions can lead to paralysis, but ADEM and GBS, an autoimmune disease, are two troubling sources of paralysis that may be contracted through immunization.
Many cases of paralysis related to these conditions clear within several months of onset, but some patients never recover. There may also be permanent damage to nerves that lingers even after the condition is gone. In this case, partial paralysis may still impact a patient’s life in many ways.
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) Immunization Risk
A rare medical condition that causes a person’s immune system to attack its own nerve cells, GBS can lead to muscle weakness and even paralysis. While most people fully recover from GBS, some suffer from long-term, life-changing nerve cell damage.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone can develop GBS. In 2005, the FDA and the CDC investigating multiple reports of GBS among people immunized with Menactra®, a new vaccine for meningitis. Despite this investigation, the drug’s recommendations were not changed.
ADEM Triggered By Immunizations
A rare condition associated with inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, ADEM can impact a wide range of activities within the central nervous system. The resulting symptoms can vary from paralysis to seizures and nausea.
“About five percent of all cases of ADEM might be triggered by recent immunization,” Dr. Aaron Boster stated in an interview with Yahoo Health. “ADEM is in the same vein as multiple sclerosis,” Boster said. “But with M.S., you’ll have one area of inflammation, affecting one part of the central nervous system. Here, you might have 20 or 30 [areas] all at the same time. When you do an MRI, you’ll see these large, fluffy, white lesions throughout the brain and spinal cord.”
Anyone Can Suffer From Severe Immunization Complications
A person of any age can have an adverse reaction to a vaccine. The onset of symptoms like paralysis, or other complications, can be sudden or take several months to develop.
Adults, children, and the elderly alike are at risk of vaccine injury, which may come seemingly without warning.
