Brett Kirkham, 39-year-old human resources director for Jefferson County Schools and longtime educator is now under arrest. Kirkham was charged Thursday, June 30, 2016 with a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student. The male student is no longer a juvenile, but the alleged relationship was ongoing for at least five years. Kirkham was charged in Tuscaloosa for being involved in a sex act with a student and possession of child pornography. He was arrested Thursday morning in Tuscaloosa and is jailed there.
Bill Veitch, District Attorney in the Bessemer Cutoff of Jefferson County, said the evidence is “damning.” Veitch believes that the victim which Kirkham is charged is not believed to be the only victim. The investigation is in the beginning stages and Veitch said “There’s a lot of people out there who know a lot.” Read more from al.com here.
