A physician was arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution after allegedly asking a patient to have sex in exchange for money and drugs. According to news reports, 52-year-old Dr. Ervin Wells was arrested at an Albertville hotel as a result of a criminal investigation prompted by accusations of a patient.
Wells has an office address listed in Evergreen, Alabama. An 18-year-old girl who says she was a patient of Dr. Wells reported that the physician offered her $600 and prescription drugs in exchange for sex, police say.
“It is especially troubling to learn that Dr. Wells has been accused of this type of activity before. Unfortunately, this kind of doctor-patient sexual assault often goes unreported, and many times there are multiple victims,” said Birmingham attorney Ernest Cory. Cory’s firm, Cory Watson Attorneys, has represented victims of sexual assault nationwide. “When patients are wronged, they have rights. When a doctor or anyone else takes advantage of someone trusted to their care, they need to be held accountable,” said Cory.

It’s not the first time Wells has faced accusations of inappropriate sexual contact with patients. WRDW TV in Augusta, Georgia reported in 2007 that Dr. Wells had been accused of fondling, sexually assaulting and kissing at least two of his patients, with at least one of the patients filing a police report. According to the press report, Dr. Wells was dismissed from his job in Augusta.
Albertville Police Chief Doug Pollard told Al.com the doctor’s arrest in Albertville followed a joint investigation involving Albertville Police, the Marshall County District Attorney, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, and the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Wells was jailed with bond set at $100,000 according to Marshall County jail records.
